Achill Island
With its sandy beaches, sea cliffs and rugged landscape exposed to the elements of the wild Atlantic Ocean the island is the perfect base for wind surfing, kayaking, surfing, kite surfing and hillwalking.
Croagh Patrick
With its conical peek that soars about the landscape, Croagh Patrick, is the ultimate challenge for walkers.
Located 5 miles from the picturesque town of Westport it provides magnificent views of Clew Bay and the surrounding south Mayo countryside from all stages of the ascent of the mountain, and, is one of the highest peaks in the West of Ireland rising to 750 metres (2,500 feet) into the sky above Co Mayo. This is definitely not for the faint hearted.
Clew Bay
Having viewed clew bay, the playground of the famous Irish Sea Pirate and Queen of Connaught Grainne Uaille, from the dizzing heights of Croagh Patrick a visit to this area with a wealth of sea and land based activities to choose from is a must for all thrill seekers.
Western Greenway
Escape the bustle of urban life on the 42km Great Western Greenway, the longest off-road walking and cycling trail in Ireland. The World Class Great Western Greenway is a traffic free cycling and walking trail which follows the route of the renowned Westport to Achill railway which closed in 1937.
Clare Island
Located in Clew Bay and accessible by ferry from Louisburgh or Roonagh Pier this is a fantastic day trip with scenery of the land and sea journey worth even mile. On the island itself you will find a range of activities from hill walking routes that take you to the edge of the most fantast sea cliffs, fantastic bird watching and even the change to try your hand at Yoga.
Westport and the Wild Atlantic Way
The Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland’s first long-distance touring route along the Atlantic coast from Donegal to West Cork. Stretching 2400km, it provides breath-taking views of all of the areas located along the entire route with the beautiful and scenic town of Westport, just 10 minutes drive from Castlebar providing the jewel in the crown of this initiative.
